35 Construction Tools List and their Uses with Pictures

Introduction

As a site engineer, you must have a minimum knowledge of the tools used in the construction site. In this post, I am trying to write with the intention to make it as a go-to option for all of us.

Sometimes we know the tool but don’t know the name of them in English. We hope we all face this at least once in our life. The below list is a collective effort.

2Head PanThis one is used to transport materials
3Masonry trowelThis tool is used to place cement mortar
4Measurement TapeThis is used to measure
5Plumb BobThis tool is used to check the vertical alignment of civil works
6Wheel BarrowThis tool is used to transport cement mortar or any materials. Sometimes it also be used to measure the quantites of materials for site level concrete mixing
7Concrete MixerThis tool is used to thoroughly mix the concrete at site.
8Plate VibratorThis tool is used to vibrate the concrete in a thin section like slab while pouring. For workability purpose, we all add water to concrete. To avoid that we are using vibrators.
9Needle VibratorThis tool is used to vibrate the concrete in a thick section like beam or column while pouring.
10Rubber BootsThis one is used to prevent skin from chemical contact
11Sand screening machineThis tool is used to sieve sand at site.
12GlovesThis is used to avoid direct contact with dangerous tools, machines or to avoid any direct chemical material contact
13Safety GlassUsed for safety purpose while drilling, hacking/roughening, grinding
14Bump Cutter/ScreedThis tool is used to level fresh concrete surface especially in slab concrete
15Wooden Float/wooden rendering floatThis tool is used to give a smooth finish to the plastered area
16ChiselThis tool is used to remove excess or waste hard concrete
17Crow BarThis tool is used in fomwork to remove nails from boards
18Framing SquareThis tool is used in Brickwork, Plastering to check right angle
19Framing HammerThis tool is used to drive and remove nails
20Line LevelThis tool is used to check horizontal level in brickwork, plastering , flooring and tile works
21Torpedo LevelCombination of line level and framing square
22Cordless DrillThis tool is used to make pilot holes, replacing jumper (special type of drill should be used while drilling concrete)
23Circular SawThis tool is used to cut woods in shuttering
24Hand SawThis tool is used in wood works and shuttering
25Block Plane / Jack PlaneThis tool is used in Door and window wood works
26Flat Pry BarThis tool is used in shuttering sometimes used to adjust the column formwork to align
27Earth RammerThis tool is used to level the ground
28LadderA ladder is a vertical or inclined set of rungs or steps, either portable or fixed, for vertical movement
29Digging barThis tool is used to breakup and loosen the compacted / hard surface area
30PolishersThis tool is used to smoothen the surface (wood or marble flooring)
31Measuring WheelThis tool is used to measure lengths. It varies by length
32Measuring BoxThis tool is used to measure the cement and sand while site mix
33Tile CutterThis tool is used to cut the tiles
34Putty KnifeThis tool is used in putty finishing to limit the thickness of the putty.
35Vacuum BlowerThis tools is used to clean the surface area from impurities (In flooring, Slab concrete etc.)
